Prologue
“You can’t be serious.”
“I am completely serious.” He didn’t turn around. He just kept on giving his younger friend his back, still observing his masterpiece, cradling it in his hands. It had taken years, but it was finally complete. It hadn’t been difficult putting it together, since he had discovered that technique long before. What had been difficult, taxing, had been finding the pieces.
The young kid couldn’t believe his ears. He kept on shaking his head, in disbelief. “You can’t… Do you realize what would happen if that kind of power started circulating around?!”
“I can only imagine. But the outcome is obvious.” He smiled. And his friend knew this, even if he couldn’t see his face at the moment. “Nothing will be able to stop me from achieving my dream once…”
“Please, I beg you. Don’t do this." He had seen enough horrors in his young life to last him for the rest of it. "If you diffuse that power...” He could already see it. The casualties, the victims. The other villages or single factions, feeling empowered, swooping down on each other only to be met with the same power. An endless cycle of slaughter out of the belief of an easy victory.
“The world would become a much worse place to live in.” The man finally turned, a smile still on his face… And his younger friend blanked at the sight of it. Because it was wicked. Twisted. And yet, so calm and rational. “Until I fill in the gaps.”
The younger man opened his mouth and stretched out his hand, trying to get something out of his throat, a phrase, a sound… But nothing came. The vision of his friend’s face like that made him lose the will to do so. He gritted his teeth and lowered his head and arm, clenching his hands into fists. He was now firmly convinced that talking would do him no good. “You’re insane.”
“No. Genius is the word you’re seeking for. After all, it seems to run in the family.” The man chuckled, and the younger one raised his head again. No longer pleading. This time he was determined, steel in his usually kind eyes.
“I can’t let you do that.” Hearing those words, the older man shook his head.
“You’re such a fool. You can’t see the benefits in this. For you, for the clan… For the world. Also…” The man moved a hand through his hair, stopping the appendage on his left eye, a dark chuckle escaping his lips. “Because you believe I’m alone on this.”
The younger man’s eyes widened, then shifted his gaze to the object his friend was holding in his right hand. Then back to his face. He had been so stupid. Of course he couldn’t have been on that alone.
“Ahahahah! If you still believe you can stop me… Us, you little fool! Just try!” The man launched himself at him. It was disappointing, but he would get a taste of his new power and at the same time get rid of all the risks to the plan getting exposed.
The younger man always thanked the gods for what he had managed to accomplish on that day. Stop that madness before it could come to fruition, take the object that could start it all. And yet, he never managed to get rid of the sensation that maybe he hadn't. That his cousin's allies had continued his work. But how?

Eight Years Later
“Alright. Can please someone tell me while we still do these dull missions even after we’ve gone toe to toe with Akatsuki and saved a freaking Kage-OW!”
“CAN YOU STOP COMPLAINING FOR A CHANGE?!” Sakura had the habit of over-reacting, but in this case she was probably right. Naruto had the habit of complaining about not having anything exciting to do. If once it was about D-Rank missions, now it was about C-Ranks.
They had just escorted a merchant to a city two days from Konoha and defended him from a bunch of bandits. Of course, they had been no match for four trained ninjas of the leaf. And that led Naruto to go back to the ‘so boring’ state which irked Sakura who retaliated with violence upon reaching the breaking point.
“Awww, but Sakura-chan! You know we can take on harder missions than these one! I can! I’m a genin just by rank…” The pink haired girl just sighed in exasperation.
“Well, too bad that rank is what matters in the world of ninjas, Naruto. You’ve got no one but Jiraiya-sama to blame for not undertaking the chunin selection exam in three years.” That made Naruto’s mood take a turn for the worse, with a pout.
“You’re so mean, Sakura-chan.” Sai just smiled at the scene.
“I suppose it’s another one of her flaws, along with her flat chest and enormous forehead.” Sakura was lunging at him with her teeth turned into fangs. Naruto grabbed her from behind just in time, taking her right elbow right in the face.
Their captain sighed. It was good that the three of them were finally getting along, but he wished that Sakura would stop hitting Naruto, that Naruto would stop complaining and that Sai would stop making Sakura angry, since that meant that to protect him Naruto would get hurt even more. He sighed. Maybe he was asking for too much.
“Alright, team.” Tomato said, noticing that they had reached their destination. The small town they had passed on the first part of the trip as well. “We’re going to spend the night here.”
“Yahoo! A real bed!” Cheered Naruto, the physical abuse immediately forgotten. The Anbu didn’t know if for convenience or just the Jinchuuriki's usual hyperactivity. He sighed.
“Yes, a real bed. You’re free to wander around but don’t be too late.”
"Great! Let's go unpack!"
"N-Naruto! Don't pull-Hey!" Naruto had already rushed forward, pulling Sai and Sakura with him by grabbing onto their arms. Ninja, yes. But still teens. Or better, still Naruto.
-I-
“Mhhh…” His weapon was ready. He encircled the hunting territory swiftly but slowly, the prey aware and waiting for his move. He moved his tool slowly, accurately, and he managed to get close to the prey without it noticing but then... Maybe nervousness. Haste. He moved too soon. The prey slipped out of his grasp and his weapon broke. His cry of defiance echoed in the sky. “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! I HATE GOLDFISHES!”
“Naruto, don’t make such a scene.” Sakura didn’t hit him on the spot because she didn’t want to damage other people’s property and also because Naruto had gotten himself quite the audience in the thirty minutes he had been trying to get a goldfish, the only unsuccessful one of their team left. Sakura had gotten one on the fifth try, Sai on the first.
“I have to vent stress on something else than these things that keep on breaking! One more, old man!” The stall’s owner laughed, collected the money handed out to him and presented Naruto with another scooping tool, causing hilarity in the audience. Sakura just groaned.
“Look, it’s getting pretty late and I don’t have half of your... Patience." Stubbornness was more like it but she decided to be gentle, for a change. "I’m going back. Sai?” Sakura turned to her other teammate, who gave her his placid smile. She hoped he wasn’t going to say anything to enrage her.
“I will retire too. Good luck, Naruto.” Naruto gave the painter ninja a thumbs up. The two non-blonde Shinobi walked away, leaving their companion to his self-imposed mission and his 'fans'. Sakura made a few steps before stopping cold and turning around.
She observed her surroundings and the crowd. For a moment she had felt someone's presence, a gaze on them. But now there was nothing and there was nothing out of the ordinary with the crowd. Must be my tiredness. I see enemies everywhere.
She completely forgot about it when Sai made a comment about how the goldfish had so many things in common with her.
-I-
“Ehm, thanks, but really, I can carry the goldfish to my room just fine. Also, my captain would ask questions.”
“Hmmm… Too bad.” The blonde girl pouted, before she replaced the annoyed expression with a grin. "Well, here's for good night!"
"One, Two-!" The blonde girl kissed him on the right cheek, the brunette on the left one, much to his gaping and blushing, which seemed to amuse the two girls. They then started to walk away, waving at him. “Bye, handsome! I hope to see you soon!”
“Call me!” Naruto was left with a huge blush on his face and a goldfish in his hands. He had won it more than an hour ago, but right after he had been practically assaulted by the two girls. Naruto was sixteen and completely inexperienced in relating with a girl actually interested in him and proactive about it. Thankfully, the girls took the initiative and he had ended up spending an hour in a saké stool with two girls and a goldfish, recounting tales of his ninja career, the two bubbly girls fawning over him and repeatedly invading his personal space. In a good way.
“I guess ero-sennin isn't completely full of himself.” The white haired sannin had told him on more than one occasion that ninjas were hot stuff in small towns. 'Either that, or...' He shifted his gaze to the goldfish, who seemed to return his gaze from behind the plastic. He grinned. “Just in case, I will name you Ichigo, with the kanji for 'luck'. And I shall train you for battle.”
The goldfish’s reply was a single bubble mouthed in the water. Naruto grinned and closed the inn’s front door behind him before starting to climb the stairs. "Now I understand where he always disappeared to every time we stopped in a small town." He was distracted enough by his thoughts to not acknowledge the presence of a man sweeping the floor clean a few meters away, who stopped after he was sure Naruto had gone to the upper floor.
“Hmmm, good.” The man smiled to himself as he slowly leaned the broom against the nearby wall. His target was back. “He started to remove the worn out clothes, and then launched them behind the angle. The garments landed on the prone form of their true owner who now lied behind the inn’s counter, his blood pooling on the floor under his lifeless body. “Now, to wait for him to drop his guard.”
-I-
“Ahhh… Goodnight, Ichigo.” Naruto had fortunately found a suitable container for his new companion, and even more fortunately the stand owner had given him some fish food for free, since he had spent so much for trying to catch that single fish.
Ensured that he had a good supply of oxygen and food for the night, Naruto went to sleep with a satisfied smile on his face. Blissful sleep. Then the door opened. The blonde ninja raised his head in a flash. The door had suddenly started swaying towards the inside the room with a 'creeeak' but there was no one behind it. He got out of the bed and slowly approached the door. He stuck his head out, carefully observing both halves of the corridor. Still nothing. He scratched the top of his head.
“Hmmm… Must have been the wind or just the door being old.” He shrugged and slowly closed the door again. He got back to bed, facing the ceiling. He slowly closed his baby blues, and his head was again filled with thoughts of ramen and those two girls from before. With a blissful sigh he turned on his right side just to be woken up again, this time by sounds that sounded a lot like slashing. His eyes went wide open. “What the-?!”
He shout of bed immediately, and he turned around ready to defend himself, just to find no one in the room still. 'Where did that noise come from?' He observed his surroundings with attention till his gaze fell on his bed. His eyes widened when he saw that the mattress now sported a number of pin-sized holes that had suddenly appeared in the place where he had been laying just a few seconds before, each no bigger than a few millimeters. "What… What is…”
Before he could say anything more, sharp pain shot up his right shoulder. He shouted out in pain and touched the offended spot. It was wet. "Sonuva-!” Blood now oozed out by the multiple wounds on his shoulder, which were eerily similar to the holes on the bed. He looked around, but there still was no sign of an enemy. “This… Genjutsu?!”
“Naruto!” His team was in his room with him, having been awaken by his sudden cry of pain. Sakura was immediately by his side while Yamato and Sai brandished kunais, looking for what he couldn't see. “What happened?! What is this wound?!”
“I… I don’t know! I didn’t see anything! I couldn’t see anything!” Naruto kept on looking around, from one end of the room to the other. He had understood that this wasn’t genjutsu since his team had managed to come to him for real. Maybe it only affected him? No. Sakura was healing his wound. The injection of foreign chakra would have broken whatever genjutsu he would have been in. The pain was still there.
-I-
In the meanwhile, downstairs, a man was leaning against the wall facing the stairs to the upper floor, chuckling to himself. He had been waiting for that. The only thing in his way was, ironically, the door. since that if he busted it to get all of them inside he would have lost the surprise effect.
“But now that his team rushed to his aid…” They had left the door open. “Checkmate.”
-I-
Team Yamato was inspecting Naruto’s room but even the Jounin couldn’t see nor hear anything and that didn't bode well if it said anything about the enemy's skill. He was certain that whoever had attacked Naruto was still nearby. Although, there was the matter of the wound. If the enemy had managed to take Naruto completely by surprise, why give him just that shallow wound? Also, the wound itself was strange. The holes were smaller than the ones left by senbon needles. 'What weapon leaves that kind of wound?'
“Captain, what should we do?” Asked Sai, while not taking his eyes off from his surroundings. Yamato thought about all the possible options in a single second.
“We should leave this room, first. We don’t…” His sentence had to be cut short because of what happened right after. It was like Yamato had suddenly started sweating blood. That was the impression that the younger ninja got as they witnessed a splash of crimson liquid erupting from his back. He fell forward, slumping to the ground.
“Captain Yamato!” Sakura knelt next to him. Naruto couldn’t help but gaze in horror at the injured form of his captain. The Jounin's whole body, on the back side, was damaged like his bed and his shoulder. Little holes, but so many that he had lost that much blood in a single instant. Sakura was as struggling to close all of them to stop the flow of crimson.
“W-What… What is happening?” He muttered, trying to find something, anything that could explain the hell was-
“Ahhh!” Naruto’s head risked to come off with all the times he was roughly turning in opposite directions in so little time. This time alerted by the sound of small explosions, like firecrackers and something wet and solid hitting his hand before falling to the ground. When he turned around he saw the Root ninja on the ground on his hands and knees, four chunks of flesh, from his legs and arms completely missing, the wounds steaming and the smell of burning flesh permeating the air. “I… I couldn’t…”
“Son of a...” Naruto was fuming, his teeth mashed together. They had been attacked one after another, without hearing or seeing anything, without being able to retaliate or even defend themselves. He exploded. “Hey! Come out, you bastard! Show your face!”
“No need to shout. I'm right here.” Naruto’s head snapped in the direction of the door. A person had appeared on the door-frame. He was dressed in traditional ninja garbs, with a blue Jounin jacket and no forehead protector and he wasn’t wearing any weapon pouches. “Although, I only came out to mock you about the fact that you asked a ninja to show himself.”
“Y-You bastard!” Naruto was about to lunge at him, but the man shot out his right hand with its right index finger stretched, waving it in sign of 'no'.
“Ah-Ah. I wouldn’t do that, if I were you.” And just as he finished saying that, Sakura gave a startled cry as well. Naruto turned to her just to see that those wounds had appeared on her right arm as well. He paled and began to sweat. The man just chuckled. “As you can see, I could take care of your girl here just as easily as I did in your teacher. Since my business is with you only, what say you just surrender? After all, if you lose your medic ninja…” Saying that he then pointed his right thumb to Sai and Yamato.
Naruto gritted his teeth and trembled in barely restrained rage. “Damn it!” Naruto suddenly summoned an incomplete rasengan in his right hand and slammed it into the nearby wall, destroying it. He jumped through the hole so created, leaving the room. The man laughed.
“Predictable. But that’s what I wanted.” Said that, he ran after Naruto, or better he walked at his own pace out of the room through the door, leaving Sakura with two heavily injured team-mates to heal and a sense of dread that she couldn’t shake off.
-I-
“Aaaargh!” That was the only thing that had come to his mind when the man told him that he was after him. Getting as far away as possible from the inn to move the fight somewhere else. He tore another wall down, finding himself in the hallway of the hotel. He turned right. Good thing there weren’t other guests on that floor. While running his mind was occupied with various thoughts. Mainly, what the hell had his attacker done. 'He took down both Sai and Yamato-taichou without them hearing or seeing anything. Me and the captain have been attacked with… I don’t know what! We just got filled with holes! And Sai got attacked with explosions! What the hell?! I can’t find a sense in any-' “Aaargh!”
Naruto had the confirmation that keeping on moving was the right idea when he felt a pain in the back of his leg. Judging from the slight injury at his right calf and the conditions of the wall right beside it he had barely dodged another one of the puncturing attacks.
'Damn it, damn it, damn it!' He suddenly dove forward and opened the door of the room placing it in front of him as he landed. And he was right in doing so, since he felt the vibrations of something impacting the door from the other side, but not breaking it. Seemed like those attacks couldn't penetrate everything. He breathed in and out, slowly. 'Alright. Use your brain… Argh, it hurts! But I must! Alright, think… Whatever they are, I know that they are projectile weapons. So, the more distance I put between myself and that man, the better. Finding cover also helps but since I can't see where they come from, it can't work forever.' He dove into the nearby room with a jump. Apart from when he attacked Sakura-chan, he wasn’t in the room and not even in a position from where he could see inside the room. So, he didn’t need to?
“You have pretty good insight.” He immediately tensed when he heard the man voice. He immediately rushed to the bed and turned it on one side, jumping behind it right after. He decided to use a different kind of approach. Sound. He couldn’t see anything, he decided to focus on what he could hear. “But how much will you be able to dodge something invisible?”
Naruto kept on focusing on the sounds. He didn’t hear anything. The complete silence was unnerving. Suddenly, his eyes widened. He had heard a very small sound, like something landing very close to him. Something very little. He didn’t bother to look around. He just got out of the way. And good thing he did so. A series of little explosions suddenly took place right in the spot where he had been a few seconds before. “Ah! Saw that?”
“Yes. But I predicted it.” Naruto didn't like those words. And he didn’t like the sudden pain on to his calves, like a needle. 'Just two? Wh-' And he sure didn’t like discovering just what had happened to Sai as twin explosions dealt him his gravest injuries yet.
“Aaaargh!” He fell on the ground, the pain shocking him, bleeding from the injury. The man took that moment to enter the room, a smile on his face.
“I think that’s game over for you.” He smiled and then kneelt beside Naruto, observing his body as the boy grimaced in pain. His gaze slowly fell on the teen’s chest. Or better, what was over it. “You just couldn't take it off to sleep, huh?” He sighed. The boy was in his PJs. “Well, sucks to be you, I guess. Now, I will take that necklace.”
“I don’t think so!” The man’s eyes didn’t even had time to widen. Naruto’s punch hit him on the left side of his face, sending him into the floor, hard. And he found the blonde’s hands around his neck immediately after. “I think the transformation technique is highly underestimated, don’t you think?! I mean, it even lets you transform into a cushion! Who would see that coming?!”
“Ngh!” The man brought his own hands above Naruto’s wrists, trying to pry the boy's hands off his neck but to no avail. The Konoha shinobi was physically stronger than him. The Kage Bunshin he had damaged suddenly disappeared in a burst of smoke. He grimaced as he realized that he had used Kage Bunshin after diving behind the raised bed. This boy is better than what they told me. Much better.
“Now I want to know: who are you?! Who sent you?! And why the hell do you want my necklace?!” Naruto applied a bit more pressure to the man’s neck, putting emphasis on the fact that he could just snap it and get over with it.
“Let’s just say that your necklace is precious in more than a way.” Replied the man, his voice a wheeze because of Naruto’s hold on his windpipe, glaring daggers at the blonde’s face. But the blurry vision caused by the strong punch was starting to return to normal. And that was what he needed. Other than the fact that they now were all in the room. “You don’t need to know more, though.”
“Don’t try anything or your neck goes!” Even if it was pretty impossible, the man tried to shake his head. And Naruto could see his lips deform in a smile.
“You’re so dumb. You still haven’t understood that I haven’t been doing anything.” Naruto raised an eyebrow. He was about to ask the man what he meant when he suddenly felt that sharp pain again. This time in higher potency, and focused on his forearms and wrists.
“Ahhh!” The shock made him lose his grip that much the man needed to push him off and then kick him in the chest, sending him flying across the room. And while ‘flying’ away, Naruto got hit again by the mysterious projectile weapons. “Ngh!” When he landed, he was bleeding from his arms and his side. 'Damn it! I wish the Kyuubi healed me faster!'
“So naïve. But, hey, I can’t really blame you for falling before my power.” Naruto fell to the ground on all fours, wincing in pain. The injuries were all small, but he had too many of them. The blood loss was starting to make him feel dizzy. “Well, now I will take that necklace…”
The man knelt again and was about to grab the object of his interest but Naruto grabbed it right before him, gritting his teeth at his enemy. He had to gain some time, to heal. Or for Sakura to finish stabilizing Yamato and Sai and come to his help. “Giving it to you? Ah. Before that…” He suddenly tightened the grip around the necklace. “I’ll destroy it!”
“Really, now?” Naruto kept on tightening the grip on the necklace, using all his strength and then some, knuckles turning white from the exertion... Then he noticed that his attacker wasn’t doing anything. He was just staring at him, annoyed. He expected him to yell and tell him to stop crushing the necklage, but nothing. No reaction at all. He was grabbing it so tightly that it was drawing blood from his palm even if it wasn’t that sharp… He blinked. He had injured himself? “It seems that you realized it. That necklace is made out by an extremely resistant material. You can’t even put a dent in it with brute strength, figures destroying it.”
Naruto cursed silently in his mind. I’m… I’m out of options… He gritted his teeth even more and stared at his attacker with rage.
“But it would be troublesome if I killed you while you were holding it. The rigor mortis would force me to carry your body with me.” Naruto would thank the man’s ignorance later on, since he ignored that rigor mortis set in about twelve hours after death. He stood up again. “I guess I'll have to hurt you to make you drop it before delivering the final blow.”
Naruto stared at him angrily and prepared for more pain. “Hnnn...” 'I must have lost more blood than what I thought.' His vision was getting blurry… No. 'Wait a minute.' It wasn't his whole vision, just a part of the room. Something was appearing in it out of thin air, the image still a blur of dark colors. He narrowed his eyes, but it seemed to do nothing. The vision was becoming clearer by itself, though. When the process was over, hefound himself blinking. Once. Twice. He honking he was, ironically, seeing things. “W-What the?!”
The man stopped whatever he was doing at Naruto’s cry of surprise. The blonde was staring with wide eyes at the man’s feet, or better the things surrounding them. They were… 'Miniature men?' There was an army of thumb-sized men standing around his attacker's feet, all garbed like ninjas. Most of them were holding a number of shurikens in both their hands. A few, though, were holding two kunais, with paperbombs attacked to them.
“W-What the hell are those…” Then, comprehension came to him as he realized they had been invisible until a few seconds ago. “… It was them! Those things were attacking us!”
“Those…!” It was the man’s turn to widen his eyes. He even took a step back, shocked. “You… You can see Bad Company?! How…” Then, comprehension came to him. He glared at the blood oozing from Naruto's hand, the one still clutching the necklace. “You stupid-! You actually injured yourself with the stone of the necklace, didn’t you?!”
Naruto looked at his hand, opening it a little, confirming that the pain had cause in a sharp cut to his palm. That was why he could suddenly see those… Things, now?
“Of all the… Why couldn’t you just die like all the others? Noooo, you just had to have dormant power! Screw rigor mortis!” The man raised his hand and Naruto saw all the little ninjas prepare to launch their weapons at him. “I’ll kill you right now!”
“Darn!” My injuries haven’t healed yet! Now he could see the attackers and the projectiles, so he jumped out of the way despite the pain, but his side injury didn’t let him dodge as well as he would have liked. He turned around and waited for the projectiles to pierce his legs… When they suddenly got deflected. “… What… The…”
“… Just my damn luck.” Naruto was pretty scared. It wasn’t right. It was not right what he was sying. A leg had come out of his own leg. Well, not really, since it didn’t rip his original limb open or something. It was like… A ghost that had come to be solid to deflect those bullets while having been dormant just a few seconds before. He observed the leg. It was human in shape, clad in a cloth in two colors, a light blue on the back and grey on the front, separated by orange. Going down he took in a brown leather boot and a piece of golden armor which protected the knee. The leg slowly went back into his body only for something else to appear behind him, a presence… While his enemy spat, observing the figure with dark green hair hovering behind Naruto. “You had to injure yourself with the stone and develop a Stand right in the middle of the battle!”
Naruto slowly raised his head, observing the imposing figure hovering just behind and above him, its dark eyes fixed on the enemy that endangered him. “Stand?”
“Yeah, because they’re always ‘standing by’ the user.” Explained the man, while Naruto couldn’t help but keep on staring at the mysterious figure that had just flown out of his body. It was of considerable stature. At least 6’4’’, and he couldn't find a spot on his body without muscles.
“… Wow. He looks kinda cool.” The childish comment enraged Naruto’s attacker even further.
“So what?! Even if you awakened a Stand, it’s not like you know how to use it nor its abilities!” Naruto’s wounds had mostly healed, by now. He quickly got back on his feet while the opponent’s ‘army’ prepared another attack. “Bad Company! Fire!”
“Not this time!” Naruto boosted his speed with chakra and jumped out of the way just in time, dodging the entire barrage of projectiles and then getting back on his feet with a little somersault. He grinned. “The problem with your ability was that that your little helpers were invisible! Now that I can see them-”
“You’re going to die all the same.” Naruto blinked at those words. He tensed as he heard a hiss coming from the wall he was leaning against. He turned to his right and saw a little ninja jumping down from and a bunch of paper bombs stuck to the concrete, already ignited.
“Oh, shit!” Naruto crossed his arms in front of his face, and suddenly the ghost -no, his ‘Stand’- appeared in front of him in the same position. 'He's shielding me again!' The explosion still knocked him on his ass, though. “Ow! It burns!” Naruto observed his arms. The skin was slightly. He blinked. “Hey! What’s the big idea?! I thought he had taken the hit for me!”
“Hehehe... That’s why I still think that I’m going to kill you, idiot. Look at your Stand.” Naruto followed the advice and noticed that his Stand sported the same identical injury. He gaped. “Do you understand? A Stand is not just a power or a technique, it's like a part of your body! Even if it’s more resistant than your real body, it can still get injured! And every damage he receives, you get as well! And viceversa!”
Naruto settled down and slowly got back on his feet, observing as his Stand silently hovered to that spot behind his back again. He then shifted his gaze to the man, amused. “You do realize that you’ve just given me an important piece of information, right?”
“Ah.” The man blinked. Once. Twice. Then it dawned on him, along with Naruto’s snicker. "Curses!"
“It seems that you are the idiot, here!” Naruto’s gaze immediately turned to the bed and then to his Stand. “Hey! Think you…” He blinked when he saw it moving and grabbing the two sides of the bed, lifting it above its head effortlessly. “Ah. I guess I just need to think what I want him to do…” He then turned his head to the enemy again, snickering. “Alright! Let’s play a game of Whack-a-Stand!”
“Ora!” Naruto’s Stand flexed his muscles and moved to smash the bed at full force on top of Bad Company. Most of the army managed to get away, but some still got squashed… Along with the floor. Naruto’s mouth opened in disbelief at the loudness of the impact and when he noticed the cracks spreading out in many directions.
“Holy shit!” Naruto jumped for the window and got out just before the entire room gave way and dropped to the floor below along with the furniture and some other ‘soldiers’. Naruto gawked at the destruction and then his stand. “Damn, you’re strong! I've only ever seen baa-chan and Sakura-chan hit that hard!” The Stand didn’t reply. He frowned while climbing the wall to the roof of the inn, feet only. “Oh, come on. I know you’re not silent. I heard you saying ‘Ora’ just before you caved the whole room in!”
Naruto looked around, not having forgotten about his enemy. 'He said that whatever damage the Stand takes, the user receives as well. I did in some of those mini-ninjas, before.' He probably hadn’t killed him, since he had squashed just a little bit of the army in the room, unless he had smashed the ninjas correspondent to his head. He wasn’t around. He looked down and noticed a little crowd gathering around the hotel.
“I suppose we made quite a bit of noise…” He heard footsteps. He turned around. "There you are!" The mystery ninja. His army was with him as well. He noticed a big difference from before, though. Blood was running down his left arm, splattering on the roof-tiles. He wouldn’t be using it anytime soon. Naruto found himself grinning. “Got you good, didn't we?”
“Laugh till you can, brat.” The man winced as he held his injured arm. He was smiling maliciously, though. “You’ve been giving away precious information as well… Even if you don’t know it.” Naruto blinked at that, confused. “First, since your stand is so powerful it must be a close range one. The most it can get away from you is probably two, three meters max. And second… Bad Company!”
Naruto crouched, prepared to defend himself but he didn't need to. The little army wasn’t aiming at him, but... “That you’re a goody little two-shoes.”
"... You spineless coward." The Stand ninjas were aiming at the crowd below, who couldn’t see them nor could possibly defend against an attack. Naruto gritted his teeth and turned to the man, venom in his eyes.
“Don’t try anything funny. Since I don’t know about your Stand’s ability, I prefer to not fight you directly.” The man grinned some more, and extended his sane hand to him. “Give me the necklace. Or they die.”
Naruto growled and removed the jewel from his neck, and launched it at the man, who burst out in laughter.
“Ahahahah! You idiot!” He felt his whole body fill with joy as he prepared to catch the necklace. “A Stand alone doesn’t mean anything! Even the strongest one is useless if the user is an idiot! You need brains!”
“I guess you’re right.” The man was about to catch the necklace when… It disappeared. It was replaced with a pair of familiar hands which again latched tightly around his neck. The man gasped for air while Naruto raised him up above his head. This time, the grip was strong enough to cut off his air supply. “But those brains should also teach you to not become too dependent on your Stand. I haven’t seen you use a single ninja technique ever since we began fighting. Not even a simple Kawarimi.”
At that precise moment the necklace fell on the roof, on the spot where Naruto had been standing just a few sefonds before. Naruto moved his head to the right, seeing how the little army to react to their user’s condition, getting weak on their knees.
“The weaker the user gets, so does the owner, huh?” He moved his head to glance at his own Stand, who was standing behind him with his hands tightened into fists. “You really are a part of my body. You read my mind perfectly.” Naruto turned to his captive again, now mischievous. “To use your words...” He removed his hands. "Game Over."
“Ghk!” The man didn’t even have the time to scream or catch his breath.
“ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORAORA!!!” Naruto’s eyes widened in surprise. He couldn’t follow the movements of his Stand’s arms. He could just gape at the blur of repeated violence while his Stand kept on screaming that strange chant as it pummeled his enemy incessantly. After a few more seconds, it pulled back his arm, screamed a battle-cry and with a last ‘ORA!’ punched the man right in the stomach. Naruto winced despite himself as he heard a loud 'crack' and saw the man's expression of excruciating pain. Gales of winds rose as the man's body pushed air out of the way, speeding through the sky and crashing through a nearby building's wall and then some, judging by the noise. Naruto stared with his jaw slack at the path of destruction until the last brick clattered to the ground and there was silence, exception made for the crowd below and their noisily reactions to the spectacle.
“… Just how powerful are you?!” The Stand didn’t reply and just went back into Naruto’s body. He frowned. “I hope you get more talkative with time.” He walked to the necklace and picked it up, putting it around his neck again. He cradled the stone, observing it. 'I guess this thing isn’t valuable just because the First Hokage possessed it, baa-chan.'
Naruto’s thoughts drifted but remained along those lines of thought. Who wanted that stone? Why? And just how awesome was his own Stand? He was soon interrupted by Sakura’s voice.
“Naruto, are you okay?!” Naruto turned around and grinned, giving Sakura a thumbs up.
“I’m completely fine, Sakura-chan! I took care of that asshole!” Sakura looked around, trying to identify a defeated enemy until she noticed the destroyed wall of the nearby building.
“Naruto, what the hell happened?!” Asked Sakura, disbelief evident in her voice that Naruto had took out an enemy that had almost killed Yamato and Sai in minutes. Naruto grinned sheepishly and scratched the back of his head.
“Well…”
-I-
"And that was when your... ‘Stand’… Punched the living hell out of your enemy, breaking almost all the bones in his body.”
“You should have seen it! It was awesome!” The day after, a medical team had been dispatched to the small town to help with the transfer of Yamato and Sai. The Root ninja was the worse off of the two, Yamato just needed some rest to replenish his blood supply. After they arrived, he and Sakura were immediately taken to Tsunade’s office. Naruto had just finished telling them everything… And the boy noticed that the Hokage's forehead was twitching.
“Naruto, do you really expect me to believe something like that?!” She suddenly screamed, leaving Naruto confused. Before he could even try to say ‘Eh? You don’t believe me?’, Tsunade was back at it. “You really expect me to believe that you… I can’t even find words to back up an opposition to your story!”
“B-But I swear! It's true! I mean-” Why wouldn’t they believe that their attacker possessed the power to summon an army of little ninjas that really were some kind of spirit that were invisible to anyone but another user of these spirits called Stands and that the necklace once belonging to her grandfather had the mystical power of giving certain people that kind of power while killing the other unworthy ones? … Ok. Maybe it wasn’t the most believable story of the world. He turned to Sakura for help. “Sakura-chan!”
“Naruto, the only thing I can agree on is that whatever he was doing, we couldn’t see nor hear. That story is just too… I mean, why would you even make up something like that?” Naruto felt an headache coming. He understood that he had a past fame of prankster and that it wasn’t the most believable story in the world, but… He frowned, trying to think of a way to make the two women believe him.
'Hmmm… Nothing else comes to mind' “Alright, I’ll show you.” Naruto got up from his chair, and Tsunade sighed.
“And how, since your ‘Stand’ is supposed to be invisible to us common mortals?” Naruto looked around and then focused his attention on the wall to his right.
“The wall will do.” That sentence made master and apprentice blink, while Naruto used his feet to measure the distance between himself and the wall. One, two… Little less than three meters. “Alright.”
“Naruto, what are you doing?” Asked Sakura, sighing in exasperation.
“You’ll see… Stand?” Naruto thought about how nice it would be to destroy the wall and so, it happened. Visible only to him, his Stand left his body and started hammering the wall with a barrage of punches. Tsunade and Sakura gasped. Not because they could see the being approach the wall nor hear it saying ‘Ora’ over and over again, but they could clearly see the effect the thing was having on the wall, dents appearing all over the wall before it gave in and pieces exploded outward with a loud noise. In a few seconds, there was a hole where there had been solid wood and concrete. The Stand then returned into Naruto’s body. The boy turned around and grinned. “Wasn’t that the coolest thing you've ever seen?”
“That… The wall… You…” Tsunade’s mouth hung open for a few seconds and then she groaned, slumping in her chair in defeat. “Alright. So, let’s say you’ve been telling the truth.” The Hokage sighed and passed a hand through her hair, before eyeing Naruto with worry. “You do realize that this means that there may be someone else after you, if that man wasn't working alone?”
“Big deal. I’ve gotten used to it.” Naruto replied, shrugging his shoulders. Tsunade frowned.
“This is more serious, Naruto. More serious than having a group of ten S-Rank shinobi after you. Do you understand just how serious that is?” Naruto blinked at that. That sounded pretty serious, yeah. But the reason why eluded him. “Naruto, if what you say is true, we can deduce from his words there are more people with that kind of ability. Abilities that can only be seen, let alone fought, by someone like them. Right now, in Konoha, that only amounts to you.”
“Ehm… That…” Naruto scratched the top of his head. He didn’t feel very excited anymore. “I didn’t think about it like that.”
“You were probably focused on how ‘cool’ your new power is.” While Sakura admonished Naruto, who just laughed nervously, Tsunade’s gaze shifted to the necklace that Naruto still held around his neck.
'To think that grandpa’s necklace held yet another curse around it.' Tsunade was about to say something but Naruto already had his hands raised in sign of ‘No’.
“Baa-chan, as you’ve just said, I’m currently the only one who can defend himself against whoever else could want this necklace. I can’t ask someone else to take care of it. Not even you.” Tsunade stared at his now dead-serious face and then sighed in defeat. Naruto sighed. “I mean, from what that man said this thing can’t be destroyed and it can either give people a Stand… Or kill them. So it’s best if I defend it myself, right? I can fight against them and I don’t run into the risk of killing myself with it, since I got already injured by it and survived.”
“Still, there are too many things that we don’t know, Naruto. It doesn’t help that we can't interrogate that man since we have to keep him in pharmaceutical coma until his bones heal. The pain would send him into shock right away." Tsunade held her hands joined under her chin, staring at nothing in particular. “Was it just him or were there other people's knew and wanted the necklace? How many of them posses this kind of power? And most of all…” She eyed the necklace yet again. “How and why does grandpa's necklace posses that kind of power?”
“I wish I knew, baa-chan.” Naruto held the necklace up with one of his hands, eyeing it quizzically.
-I-
“So he failed... And he was captured.”
“It’s not like we didn’t foresee a certain percentage of failure. We all know how he likes to play with his prey.” It really was a pain in the ass of an outcome, especially if what was suspected to have happened was proven true. He sighed, scratching his eyepatch. It always itched when he was annoyed. “What worries me is the way Keigo was defeated.”
“As in?” The second presence in the room leaned the right side of his head on his closed punch, crossing one of his legs over the other, long hair falling over the right side of his face.
“The crowd that the dumbass let gather saw him and the owner facing off on the roof of the inn.” The third presence replied, gritting her sharp teeth in anger. “And that he got rocketed off it, into a nearby building, through a couple of walls, without even being touched!”
“So, not only he screwed up, but in the fight, the owner probably developed a Stand. There are not many shinobi techniques that cannot be seen and have that much of a physical effect." The long-haired man sighed, a single lock of hair moving to tickle his nose. He placed one to back into place.
“Seems like it-Woah!” The one with the eyepatch crouched to dodge a thrown vase. He turned with a growl to the anger-prone girl. “Hey! Watch it, Spitfire!”
“It is an unexpected outcome, yes.” A fourth figure, sitting cross legged in a corner of the room, eyes closed. “But it's not necessarily a negative one, no. After all, the reason we want that necklace is because we do want for more stand users to appear, yes.”
“Fufufu... If he had developed one of the Stands we need, it would be an amusing coincidence, wouldn't it?” A fifth presence commented with a melodious female voice.
“On one hand, yeah. On the other, it would be a big problem, since we still need to get our hands on the damn necklace and from what we know those Stands are supposed to be the strongest ones!” The younger, shorter girl commented from her perched position on top the long haired man's arm-chair.
“In the right hands." The man rectified. Then, he sighed. "Well, you heard her. We still need the 'damn necklace'." His lips tightened in a horizontal line as he raised an eyelid, revealing a big green eye. "So, who should we send this time?"
-I-
“Damn, do I feel tired.” Naruto said, walking into his apartment and closing the door right behind him. He then untied the forehead protector and unceremoniously dropped it on the couch, before falling on the piece of furniture himself. He was pretty tired, since he hadn’t gotten much sleep. Also, because of the awareness of yet another heap of trouble he could find himself in. “… I'm thirsty.”
He turned his eyes to the sink but he pouted when he realized that he would have to get up from the couch. 'Maybe...' He thought about it. And the Stand obeyed. It got out of his body, took the glass standing near the sink and opened the tap, filling it with clear water. Once he had gathered the amount Naruto desired, he closed the tap and hovered back to hand the glass to the blonde. “Wow… Thanks.”
The Stand didn’t say anything, he just stayed there while Naruto observed the glass, trying to find any cracks in the transparent material. He found none. “You’ve got that much strength and yet you can control it with such precision? I half expected you to shatter the glass.” After he spoke those words, the Stand went back into Naruto’s body, earning a frown from the blonde, directed at his stomach. “What do I have to do to make you talk outside of when you're murdering someone, as cool as it is? Order you?”
Naruto sighed and drank the water while observing the apartment. He had been lucky that Tsunade had helped him find this new one. Not that his old one wasn’t nice, but it was becoming a bit too small. Mainly because he needed a bigger bed because of his growth spurt which just wouldn’t fit in his old bedroom.
Thanks to his saving skills and a certain degree luck in card and dice games he had managed to collect enough money to change his furniture and buy some new vases for his plants as well. Not many people knew about it, but he loved plants.
He glanced towards the window where they were having their daily ration of sunlight, smiling as he observed them one by one. The plant with red flowers he had saved when he was six, the little cactus that Iruka had given him as a present for his eight birthday, the black haired woman, the one he had gotten from Kakashi sensei. 'Wait a minute. Women aren't plant life.' He snapped his head back. Indeed, a young black haired woman was sitting on his window, glaring at him. He got up and was about to speak-
“You’re blonde.” She cut him to the punch, much to his surprise. “You’re not tall enough.” At that Naruto closed his gaping mouth, his eyebrows distorting into a frown. “From what I’ve seen of you today, you’re probably an idiot.” Naruto frowned fully, but he got distracted when he got a better look at the young woman. She was quite tall, a few years older than him but younger than, say, Shizune. She was tall enough to not need them but she wore high heels. Along with a low cut black dress which ended up at mid-tight exposing toned legs and a long red scarf draped around her shoulders before snaking around her arms. Her figure was soft-looking And full of curves. Jet black hair, curly, that matched her eyes. Tanned, bronze skin. If Naruto had to use one word to describer her, that would be hot. He was broke out of his reverie by a growl. “And to top it off, you’re a pervert!”
“H-Hey! How can I not stare?! I mean-You know!” Indeed. Those legs.
“It’s a test, you idiot! That you failed miserably! Ohhh, I can’t believe this…” The last part of the sentence was a whine, but anger and determination returned to the girls’ eyes full force right after. “Show it to me!”
“… Eh?” Naruto’s face went red. Even more when the woman slapped him on his right cheek.
“You are a pervert! I was talking about your Stand!” Naruto nodded and wished for his Stand to come out of his body, not really sure what was going on but knowing that with angry women the best choice was to obey and pray for the best outcome. And come out he did. The woman followed the figure with her gaze as it got out of Naruto’s body and stopped a meter above the boy’s head. She stared at it for a few seconds, and then paled in the face. “Nononono, please...” She grabbed her head and shook it from side to side, then returned her gaze to Naruto with a pitiful look on her face. “Does…” She swallowed. It seemed like she was struggling to ask something. “Does it say ‘Ora’ over and over again when he punches things?”
“… Yes?” Naruto said, and he narrowly avoided an heart-attack when the young woman screamed shrilly to the heavens. He almost began screaming as well for the scare, but he managed to refrain himself. Particularly because the girl began crying. As in really crying, throwing her crossed arms on his couch and hiding her face in them. “Ehm… Are you…”
“GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE!” Naruto scratched the back of his head and slowly backed away towards the door, his Stand long back into his body. He opened the door, got out and closed it slowly behind him. … Three… Two… One… He reopened the door screaming.
“WHAT THE HELL?! THIS IS MY HOUSE!” That stopped the woman’s crying fit for a few seconds. She sniffed and looked at him, staring…
“You’re… Even worse than… WAAAAAAAAH!” And back to crying she went. Naruto was about to blow a fuse. His face was red and smoke was literally coming out of his ears. “First he marries someone else, then history gets rewritten, now the next owner of his Stand is… Is…” She stopped yet again to look at Naruto and successively raised her head to the sky, her hands joined in prayer. “Oh, Prophet! Strike me down where I stand! End my now meaningless life!”
“ALRIGHT! STOP! TIME OUT!” Naruto held his hands in a clear T, and then jumped on the couch, trying to get a hold of the psycho woman… Who suddenly, demonstrating a nice set or reflexes, speed and agility, somersaulted from the couch and dodged the attack completely. Naruto was surprised, but he quickly resumed glaring at her. “Would you please stop throwing a tantrum and start acting like a normal person?! And talking! Who are you?! What are you doing here?! And…” He summoned it in a split second. “What do you now about him?!”
“Sniff… Think about Jotaro at 17, think about Jotaro at 17…” She breathed in deeply and then exhaled just as deeply, over and over until she calmed down. She then picked up a chair from Naruto’s table, spun it around and sat on it in front of the couch, wiping her cheeks from tears with her scarf. “Alright... I'm calm now.” She sighed and with a pout, pointed a slender finger in the Stand's direction. “First, his name is Star Platinum.”
Naruto blinked. “One hell of a name.”
“Second, my name is… Well, just call me Qian. I suppose it’s better than ‘girl’.” She sighed wishfully, as she was reminiscing a fond memory. “I’m here because I felt that he had been born again. And I wanted to check, bonded to who…” She frowned. “Imagine my surprise when I found out you were nothing like you should have…”
“Alright, alright, stop right there.” Naruto got back into a sitting position, holding his forehead because of the signs of a terrible incoming headache. “You’ve not given me your real name. Bad thing since the first and only person I met who knew about Stands tried to kill me. Putting aside that, what do you with ‘again’?”
“I've already seen it happen, I've already seen someone with that Stand. In the world I come from.” She sighed, leaning her chin onto her right palm as Naruto stared with wide eyes. “We had Stands first. And the person who originally owned that Stand wasn’t anything like you.”
“… You come from…” Naruto palmed his face. Now he knew how Tsunade had felt a few hours before when he had told her about Stands. “Alright. Suppose I believe you. How the hell is anyone able to skip dimensions?”
“Stuck In A Moment.” She said. Naruto didn’t understand what she meant with that weird sentence till something began to come out of her body. He tensed and summoned Star Platinum as he realized it was another Stand. This one was still humanoid in appearance, but its colors were cream and pink. It had no face nor hair and in the place of his right arm it had two right claws. 'Qian' threw her head back, puffing out smoke… And Naruto realized that he hadn’t even noticed that she had lighted herself a cigarette. “She’s my Stand. Her ability is to cut through the fabric of space and time.”
“… Eh?” Naruto’s quizzical face made the woman frown again. She got up from her seat. She walked to his sink and took from it a big bowl which she filled with water and a glass. She then walked up to him and sat back on the chair, holding the two things in her hands.
“Example. Think of the bowl as the world where I lived in, alright? Time flows normally, there are a couple of wars and people get high and die in car accidents every Saturday. Follow me, apart what a car is?” Naruto nodded, too curious by now to put up any kind of objection. “Good. Now, the water is me. My Stand creates the glass, which really is an artificial pocket dimension. Much smaller, and there time doesn’t flow. SIAM can enter it along with the user, me.” She poured all the water into the glass. Naruto nodded. He was following her, but he still had a question.
“Ok, but: if you come from another world, how did you end up in this one?” She sighed deeply.
“Long story short, I decided to take a little vacation in my private space. I like to do that every now and then since I can basically fill a pocket dimension with what I want. It wasn't even much, just a couple of weeks. And when I got back out…” The woman raised the glass to pour the water back into the bowl… Just to suddenly move the bowl out of the way, the water ending up all on the floor. Naruto gasped. “My world wasn’t there anymore.”
“My floor! It’s wood, you know! It…” Naruto seemed to realize just then what ‘Qian’ had just said. “Your world WHAT?!”
“What I said. It had changed. Story had changed, people had changed, sometimes big time, sometimes just a little. But it still was a new, different world. I don’t know what happened, but while I was in my pocket dimension, something happened to my home one. Even Stands had changed. I was so scared that I went back into Stuck’s dimension almost immediately, and I stayed there ever since, looking around, trying to make sense of what had happened... Failing miserably.” She let her eyes wander around, putting the bowl and the glass on the nearby table, eyes now expressing sadness. “After a few years of wandering I discovered something else about SIAM's powers. Or maybe she just evolved, it happens. I found out that the place I go back to doesn’t have to be the same I come from. That's how I skip dimensions. And so, long story short, I started looking for a dimension similar to my home one, especially when it comes to Stands… So, here I am.”
Naruto at first said nothing. Then, he raised his right hand and opened his mouth. But nothing came out. He tried speaking three more times, each time with a more exasperated expression, trying to find something to say to retort. He got nothing. If it was a lie, it was extremely elaborated. “Alright. I suppose I can’t do anything else but believe you.” He massaged his face again, and he got up from the couch to take a mop to dry the floor before it was too late. “You still haven’t told me everything, though. Including what you want from me, and I really hope it's not my necklace.” He started drying the wet spot. His mind then went to the thing that had most shocked him. Not that there were other words, but that someone could travel them. And how. “Darn. Create another dimension?” He muttered, stopping his mopping to stare at Qian again. “Stands can do that kind of things too?” The woman smirked and then laughed, amused.
“It’s fun, coming from the owner of Star Platinum, of all people.” Naruto raised an eyebrow at that. Her smile was now something vicious, like 'I know something you doooo-ooon't!' “You haven’t had it much, right? Just a couple days. So you don't know.”
“Know what?” Asked Naruto, now really on his toes. The woman's smirk grew wider.
“Most stands possess a special power that goes with their physical prowess or makes up for the lack of it. Star Platinum's one is... Well...” Naruto was really on edge. Star Platinum wasn't just super-strong, super-fast, super-precise, super… Supereverything? What could top that? He honestly didn't know. The woman smiled devilishly. “Long story short, Star Platinum can stop time.”
The blonde shinobi just stared. It took five seconds for his brain to regain the means to process Qian's words. And the result was explosive. “HE CAN DO WHAT?!”
Author's Notes: Quite a long one, huh? Well, that's because I originally planned for this to be a full-fledged story and this was its first chapter. I went back and edited it, putting it in the bloopers, and I was quite amused to find out that despite its age this is one of the most well paced pieces I've ever written, especially when it came to the fight. I guess it's because I was trying hard to write a fight worthy of a Jojo series. It was quite fun to do, especially the first part when Naruto had to figure out how to fight an invisible enemy, having to use his brain extensively for a chance. Whoever has ever read a Jojo series knows that that's the only way for a Stand user to survive against another Stand user, no matter its power and against the more powerful enemies, sometimes it's not enough, so broken are a few Stand Powers. Like Star Platinum's.
When I was planning for this to become a story, I had started thinking about a circle of Stand Users looking for Naruto's necklace to create some more users for their hidden agenda, which was to awake a few specific Stands, essentially creating a third power in the Ninja World, an agenda started and stopped by two canon Naruto characters. Kudos to who can guess their identities.
A third power able to go toe-to-toe with Akatsuki even if, as I planned, some of them wouldn't have ninja training. Doesn't make sense? Think about it. What does it matter if you can summon lava or split mountains if your opponents can just stop time and rip off your head or make you meet your alter-ego from another dimension which signifies immediate annihilation for the both of you? Yes, those are actual powers from the original Jojo series. To even find out what some people's powers are, people died. The shit Jotaro had to pull out in part 3's finale to survive against Dio until he understood just what the corpse-stealer's actual power was after most of his other allies had sacrificed themselves to discover what he thought was his real power, is mind-boggling.
Of course, Naruto would get allies with Stands as well. Some would be civilians. And in perfect Jojo fashion, some of them wouldn't survive against some of the stronger enemies. On that matter, Hirohiko Araki-sensei has always been cruel, but just. His are probably the best fight scenes I've ever read in a manga. The base rule is: think fast, think smart or you die.
Yes, Naruto is a bit harder to kill than a normal human which would make up for his lack of smarts compared to Jotaro and he has the Strongest Stand, but, do you really think I would let him get its full power so easily? Where would be the fun in that? :D
